Protect Wisconsin’s waters by reducing your salt use this winter – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and Wisconsin Salt Wise invite the public to learn more about the impacts of road salt on our drinking water and freshwater ecosystems during Winter Salt Awareness Week, January 27-31, 2025. Shawano County dam problem to cause ‘unstable water levels’ – The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office is alerting people along and using the Wolf River about a malfunction at the Balsam Row Road Dam. The lead dam operator reports there was a generator failure. “This will lead to unstable water levels for the rest of winter,” the sheriff’s office said. City to spend $225K on water study to ensure smooth water operations in future – A water evaluation study is in the beginning stages of being conducted by the city’s water and utilities department. Conducted about once every ten years, the study will look at current conditions while proposing expansion and maintenance plans to ensure things continue to operate smoothly over the next decade. It’s that time of year where we worry about how deep the frost is getting in the ground.  We keep track of it for you, but we need your help.  If you’re out digging or checking lift stations, let us know how deep the frost is in your town.  Others use this information to determine their work before it starts.  Email Renee at the office and let her know.  It will show up on our website.  (No snow and frigid temps is really driving it in this week!)

It’s time to Nominate your fellow Operators, Clerks, and Industry colleagues for a Wisconsin Rural Water Award!  It is award season, and we are looking for nominations for people that have done an upstanding job in the water/wastewater industry.  Maybe someone who has had a distinguished career, solved an especially difficult problem, or made you and your customer’s life better.
