Water Distribution Foreman or a Water Utility Specialist

Menasha Utilities is seeking a candidate to fill an opening in the Water Distribution Department.  We would look to hire a Water Distribution Foreman or a Water Utility Specialist depending on the candidates’ skillset and experience. This position is in a community serving 5,000 water customers. This position is responsible for maintaining water distribution system components including meters, valves, hydrants, and water mains. Employees are expected to conduct cross connection inspections, collect information, and enter data into GIS software, conduct leak detection, and interact with the public.

Progression to the Water Distribution Foreman would be based on demonstrated experience in water distribution and leadership ability. Work is performed independently or as a team within established policies, procedures, and technical guidelines. Employees are evaluated by supervisors through observation, ability to follow instruction, and results obtained.

Work involves: Repair water main breaks, valves, hydrants, and services; Exchange water meters using AMI software and perform cross-connection inspections. Test water meters according to Wisconsin PSC code; Operate and flush water hydrants traditionally and unidirectionally; Operate and exercise valves; Schedule appointments and interact with the public. Investigate unusual water consumption and customer complaints; Prepare and maintain records, reports, maps, and databases; Operate equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, valve exercisers, hydro excavators, leak detection equipment, concrete saws, power tools, and hand tools; Inspect water distribution work performed by contactors; Disconnect and re-connect water services; Patch and repair roads.

Qualifications include: Graduation from high school; Experience using GIS software, databases, and mapping programs; Post high school education in water distribution or similar classes; CDL license: Experience working in a water distribution department or a similar field involving water mains, hydrants, valves, meters, and services. Wisconsin DNR Certification as a Class D water distribution operator, or ability to obtain certification within six months.
