The City of Mosinee, Wisconsin, is seeking an experienced and dynamic individual for the position of Director of Public Works. This important leadership role offers an excellent opportunity to manage and oversee the public works operations for a vibrant and growing community. The Director of Public Works will be responsible for a wide range of essential services and infrastructure, including transportation, water utility, wastewater, street maintenance, stormwater management, and more.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management: Supervise and direct all public works operations, ensuring efficient delivery of services to residents. Manage a team of public works staff and work with other city departments, elected officials, and contractors.
- Budgeting and Planning: Prepare and oversee the public works budget and the utility budget, manage resources effectively, and ensure proper funding for projects and ongoing operations.
- Project Management: Oversee capital improvement projects related to public infrastructure, including planning, budgeting, design, and implementation. Coordinate with external agencies, contractors, and consultants.
- Policy Development and Compliance: Develop policies and procedures to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Stay informed of new regulations and industry trends.
- Public Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for public works-related inquiries. Address concerns, provide updates on ongoing projects, and ensure clear communication with the community.
- Operational Efficiency: Continuously assess and improve public works processes, ensuring the safety, functionality, and sustainability of city infrastructure.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in public works management, including supervisory or management roles. Experience in budgeting, project management, and public infrastructure is essential.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of public works operations, including transportation systems, waste management, and utilities.
- Proven leadership abilities with a focus on staff development and team building.
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to public works.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with the public, elected officials, and staff.
- Proficiency with budgeting, contract management, and project management software.
Desired Qualifications:
- Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Certified Utility Operator
- Degree in Public Administration, Civil Engineering, or related field.
- Professional certifications related to public works or civil engineering (e.g., PE, PMP).
- Experience with GIS and asset management software.
