City of Fort Atkinson is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Wastewater Utility Superintendent. The City’s Wastewater Utility serves 12,500 residents and several significant industrial institutions within the City. The plant has completed a comprehensive upgrade in 2024 and is well positioned to continue its excellent performance serving the community for the next decade or more. The Utility is not regulated by the PSC. This position is in responsible charge of all operations associated with the Wastewater Utility. The Engineering and Public Works Departments provide support for collection system cleaning and maintenance. The position has supervisory responsibilities over full time, part time, and seasonal employees. The Wastewater Utility Superintendent reports to the Director of Public Works and is a member of the City’s Management Team.
Qualifications required include Associate or Bachelor degree in wastewater technology or related science field, with minimum five years of supervisory experience in wastewater treatment or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities. Experience with aerobic systems is a plus. Must be in receipt of Wisconsin DNR Wastewater Operator Certification as an Advanced Level in Sub-grades B, C, D, L, P, SS. Ability to obtain A1 at an advanced level will be required within 6 months of hire.
The City of Fort Atkinson offers an annual salary range of $79,770-$85,663. Starting employees receive 80 hours of vacation (prorated from the start date), 40 hours of earned comp vacation, 10 holidays, earned sick days, and 2 personal days. The City is a part of the Wisconsin Retirement System, and offers health, life, dental, vision, and income continuation insurance, as well as a deferred compensation program.
